Bank History

First Kansas Bank is a community bank initially chartered as the Barton County State Bank on August 16, 1900. The Bank converted to a national charter on September 1, 1908 and changed its name to the First National Bank of Hoisington.

The Bank converted to a state charter on November 3, 1977 and changed its name to First Kansas Bank. The John Sutherland family purchased First Kansas Bank in 1985.

First Kansas Bank has since expanded into the communities of Claflin in 1989, Great Bend in 1997, and Hays in 2014.


Paul Snapp joined First Kansas Bank in February of 2001 and has served as President and CEO since 2007. Paul has over 25 years of banking experience.

He comments, "I am grateful for the opportunity to work with the talented Team we have assembled. Our Team builds genuine relationships and delivers awesome service to our customers and the communities we serve".

Paul grew up on a diversified crop and livestock operation in Republic County, Kansas and retains a keen interest in the family farming operation.
